Essay On Renaissance Art Example For Students

Article On Renaissance Art Design of the Renaissance mirrors the previous works of the Roman, Byzantines, Moslems, and numerous different developments. The S. Pietro No. 1 was started in 1564 and was structured by Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Carlo Maderna. Numerous parts of this structure mirror their outside impacts. The huge, foreboding vault alongside the two littler, less scary ones affirm the Byzantine style had entered the Renaissance. Amazing, expound segments show Roman and Greek style of sanctuaries. A fancy faãÆ'â §ade improves the passageway to the castle and speaks to increasingly Roman culture. All through the structure, high curves structure the entryways. In the side view, they are obvious on the littler arch, moreover. Once more, Roman culture has demonstrated to have penetrated the Renaissance style. Formed shells decorate the bigger vault, and a stone mullion made of two segments and a stone vertical bar isolates every window, two structures likewise found on the Pantheon. These components join to frame this grand portrayal of Renaissance engineering. A great part of the Renaissance writing had its premise in Greek verses. Initially, the sonnets of the Renaissance were written in ProvenãÆ'â §al lingo, which is a blend of French and Italian. Numerous sonnets adulated ladies, discussed love, and alluded to God and different divinities. A few creators of this time were humanists. One said to be so was Francesco Petrarch. In his Sonnet 3, he tells the story of his affection having been taken from him by the plague. Before all else, he alludes to God just like the Maker. He proceeds to tell how he began to look all starry eyed at a lady without believing that anything could go foul. At the point when she passes on of the plague, he starts to show his human sentiments of agony of having his solitary love torn from his grip. He makes a reference to cupid when he talks about the pole that executes, being cupids bolt. That line demonstrated his humanistic dissatisfaction by alluding to beginning to look all starry eyed at as being deadly . In spite of the fact that it is an unfortunate sonnet, Petrarchs work gives a phenomenal case of the writing qualities of the Renaissance.

October 2008 1 COUNTRY REPORT [As at October 2008, ? 1,000 = HK$ 73. 14; HK$1 = ? 13. 67; US$ 1 = HK$ 7. 76] 1. Official SUMMARY Hong Kong delighted in a high development rate in GDP in 2007 (6. 4%), with a for every capita GDP of US$29,914. While the administration part observed the most noteworthy development (7. 4%), the development pace of the development segment was 0. 4%. The development part recorded a positive development rate since 1997. The Economics viewpoint for the primary portion of 2008 was as yet hopeful. Be that as it may, the results following the breakdown of the property showcase in US, the insolvency of Lehman Brothers and the rescue of other money related establishments (e. g. AIG, Freddie Mae and Fannie Mae) by the US government, along with the droop of the securities exchanges, individuals are getting cynical towards the last 50% of 2008 and one year from now. While the log jam in development of cutting edge economies in Europe and the US will have some effect on the economies of developing markets and the Mainland, the continued fast financial development of the Mainland and its undeniably escalated monetary mix with Hong Kong will to a restricted degree help the financial turn of events and pad the effect of the lull on Hong Kong. As for the work advertise, the joblessness rate has hit a record-breaking low at around 4%. The joblessness pace of development part continued diminishing in these continuous as there were more employment opening made by the significant tasks, e. g. Hong Kong West and Tsuen Wan waste passage, modified the Lo Wu Correctional Institution and so on. Development Cost has gotten after it hit a base in 2003. It is pretty much in equality of 1997 when the development cost was at its pinnacle. The high development cost can be reflected from the expansion in development materials. The costs of significant development materials, for example, hardwood and steel items have ascended by as much as half more than 4 years. While there was no distributed wages for development laborers, the wages have not ascended in standard with the ascent in expectation for everyday comforts as reflected from the numerous showings of the development laborers and 40-day strike by the bar drinking sprees in Hong Kong, which has prompted a close to stop of the development business. The pay rates of ATPC have increased by a normal of 9-13% more than 2 years, except for venture chiefs and security officials. There is no institutional or lawful section hindrance to the development advertise in Hong Kong. Remote firms are required to satisfy indistinguishable arrangement of measures from neighborhood firms to get recorded with the position. Subsequently, the import of development administrations doesn't give off an impression of being dynamic and has reliably remained at under 4% of the absolute development volume. The greater part of the import and fare administrations are completed inside the Asian area, with the Chinese Mainland taking the most noteworthy rate. The significant administrations were venture the board, contracting and designing counseling. Fare of development administrations to districts outside Asia is insignificant. The standpoint of the development business glances promising in the following 10-15 years as the administration has sketched out a progression of infrastructural ventures, a large number of which are cross-outskirt, for example, the scaffold connecting Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai. It is conceived at any rate HK$250 billion open cash will be spent and 250,000 occupation opportunities will be made. The degree to which these undertakings will profit the development work advertise is not yet clear. 2. 2. 1 MACRO ECONOMIC REVIEW AND OUTLOOK MAIN MACROECONOMIC INDICATORS 2000 2001 1,131,880 1,299,218 0. 5 1,177 1. 4 59,760 - 11. 7 1,076,998 - 0. 2 57,167 - 7. 9 2002 2003 GDP and Components 1,152,718 1,277,314 1. 8 1,138 - 3. 3 51,396 - 14. 0 1,079,476 0. 2 51,534 1,187,369 1,234,761 3 940 - 17. 4 44,403 - 13. 6 1,062,714 - 1. 5 44,910 40,376 - 10. 1 6,797,700 0. 5 3,515,900 1. 3 6. 8 2004 1,287,900 1,291,923 8. 5 958 1. 9 44,455 0. 1 1,119,304 2005 1,139,110 1,382,590 7. 1 947 - 1. 1 45,54 7 2. 5 1,207,873 7. 9 38,538 - 4. 6 6,837,800 0. 6 3,538,100 0. 6 5. 6 2006 1,475,910 7 942 - 0. 5 45,761 0. 4 1,297,545 7. 4 38,688 0. 04 6,909,500 1. 0 3,581,400 1. 2 4. 8 2007 1,569,890 1,616,215 6. 4 n. a. n,a, n. a. n. a. n. a. n. a. n. a. n. . 6,963,100 0. 8 3,640,500 1. 6 4 GDP in chained(2006) dollars (HK$ million) GDP at momentum showcase value (HK$ million) GDP development (%) Primary segment (HK$ million) % development Manufacturing segment (HK$ million) % development Services part (HK$ million) % development Construction segment (HK$ million) % development Population development rate (%) Total work power Labor power development rate (%) Unemployment rate (not regularly balanced) Changes in purchaser value file (%) Changes in GDP deflator (%) Short term premium rate* (%) Long term premium rate**(%) Annual normal swapping scale with $US (HK$) ,126,279 1,317,650 8 1,161 - 21. 4 67,646 6. 8 1,077,256 4. 7 62,054 - 5. 3 6,711,500 1. 1 3,374,200 1. 6 4. 9 - 9. 9 - 12. 9 Demogr aphic Indicators 6,730,300 6,725,800 6,764,200 0. 3 - 0. 1 0. 6 3,425,900 3,474,000 3,472,500 1. 5. 1. 4 7. 3 0 7. 9 Financial Indicators - 3. 8 - 3. 6. 21 7. 48 7. 791 - 1. 6 - 1. 9 3. 45 6. 37 7. 799 - 3. 0 - 3. 5 1. 60 5. 40 7. 799 - 2. 6 - 6. 2 0. 81 3. 93 7. 787 - 0. 4 - 3. 5 0. 25 4. 59 7. 788 1. 0 - 0. 1 2. 88 3. 55 7. 777 2. 0. 3 4. 05 4. 83 7. 768 2. 0 3 2. 33 3. 58 7. 803 Notes n. a. information not accessible * yield of 91-day Exchange Fund Bills (mid-year) **yield of 10-year Exchange Fund Notes (mid-year) Sources: GDP, Demographic and Financial Indicators: Government of the HKSAR website page at censtatd. gov. hk/hong_kong_statistics Short and long haul financing costs: Monthly Statistical Bulletin, Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Laws and Rituals throughout History Began with the Code of...

Throughout history, many civilizations have endured through a system of social, political, religious, and economic laws and rituals. Most of these laws and rituals were set up as procedures for moral behavior, family life, education, government, and business. These basic values were set forth by an early civilization known as the Babylonians. Law codes were regarded as a subject for prayer. However, to truly gain an understanding of Mesopotamia in the 17th Century BC, we should take a closer look at the penalties rather than the laws themselves. There is a lot about Babylonian society that can be learned through reading the Code of Hammurabi. In the very least, the document itself and the materials used to produce it tell how advanced†¦show more content†¦For example, Hammurabis law number 53 says If anyone be too lazy to keep his dam in proper condition, and does not so keep it; if then the dam break and all the fields be flooded, then shall he in whose dam the break occurred be sold for money, and the money shall replace the corn which he has caused to be ruined . We can assume that there was a problem in Mesopotamian society with abandoned or poorly maintained irrigation ducts. Laws play a major role in the expansion of a nation. Justice is the upholding of those laws from an impartial standpoint. King Hammurabi managed to organize one of the first best preserved set of laws from ancient Babylonian times. The Code of Hammurabi was recorded on clay tablets standing eight feet high and written in cuneiform. The laws consisted of 282 provisions arranged under a variety of subjects ranging from family and personal property to trade and business. These laws established consequences with the philosophy that the punishment should fit the crime. In a society that was overwhelmingly illiterate, people would never know their rights if they depended upon a written text. There were several social classes, and each of those had different consequences and rights. Victims, however, were paid monetarily by the offender. Babylonians viewed punishment as â€Å"an eye for an eye†. Hammurabi created these laws for a standardized code that helped control his empire. Nursing Clinical Setting Business Implement Research

Question: Describe about the Nursing Clinical Setting for Business Implement Research. Answer: The essay is an individual position statement on the topic of evidence based practice (EBP) and the view that nurses are expected to implement research findings into practice but they are not trained to do this. The topic concludes by stating that nurses should not be expected to engage in EBP in clinical setting. However the individual position statement is that EBP is extremely critical for effective nursing practice and nurses should be encouraged to engage in EBP by giving them adequate training to support such practice. The essay takes the individual statement further by describing about benefits of EBP in patient outcome and how to introduce feasible changes in the system to promote EBP in daily nursing practice. Evidence based practice (EBP) is the approach to integrating current best available research evidence with individual clinical expertise to take best decision for patient care. It is a balanced combination of health professionals cumulated experience, respect of patient values and use of a strong research based evidence (Buysse et al., 2012). The practice of EBP is essential due to increased queries about the effect of certain treatment and therapies from patient. In such case, EBP helps in analyzing relevant research article in interested area of practice to find out the best way to improve health status. The demand for EBP has also increased in nursing practice and training as nurse spends the maximum length of time with patient. This demand has also increased due to increased queries about treatment options from well-educated consumers (DiCenso et al., 2014). It is important to apply EBP both theoretically and clinically to improve patient outcome. This does not means just integrating research findings into daily practice, but also integrating standards of nursing practice, nursing expertise and patient values in care of patient. Hence, nurse must be aware that they need to follows nursing standards of practice as well as learn the skills of evidence based practice. The guideline for registered nurse standard of practice includes analyzing nursing practice, engaging in therapeutic relationship, providing adequate information to patient to enable health decision making, conducting culturally appropriate assessment, constructing nursing plan after setting priorities and goal and being accountable for providing safe and high quality of nursing care (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Professional standards, 2016). Integration of EBP along nursing standard of practice leads to favorable outcome for patient. Utilization of best knowled ge in research promotes uptake of care and also favors individualization of care according to patients cultural values and preference. The topic on EBP highlighted that nurse are not trained to efficiently apply evidence based practice in nursing and hence they should be expected to engage in EBP in their daily practice. However, the individual position statement oppose this fact because there is more pressure from consumers and health care organization to get desired patient outcome as well as save cost involved in treatment (Stevens, 2013). Evidence based practice minimizes the risk of adverse outcome as health decision is made after effectively analyzing accurate journal article to determine what approach is best for patients. This works to satisfy patient expectation as well as reduce cost involved in treatment (Schmidt Brown, 2014).The only challenge that lies in effectively implementing EBP among nurses is that of accurately applying that research in daily practice. Hence, it is necessary to understand nurse perspective to identify what acts as barrier in engaging in EBP, so that those barriers are addressed in training session for nurses. Research studies on factors that prohibit nurses from engaging in evidence based practice are inadequate skills in EBP and misconception among nurse that it is not effective and it is a complex process which consumes a lot of time in interpreting research findings. The culture and environment of health care facility also impedes introducing EBP in daily activities when health authority takes relevant steps to make the process acceptable to all health care staff. Outdated policies and organizational practice also acts as barrier in recognizing the benefits of EBP. The pattern of nursing education or curricula can also be regarded as reasons to why nurse find it a complex process to utilize in health care setting (Melnyk et al., 2012). The nursing curricula teaches nurse about the ways to conduct research, however no education is given on how to take an evidence-based approach to care. Hence, if immediate step is taken to address this barriers and conducting training for teaching skill s in EBP is given to nurses, it will help to reduce the time to interpret research findings and implement them in practice setting (Melnyk et al., 2014). In order to support my individual position statement, the recommendation is to arrange training session for nurses to teach skills to apply EBP. The initiative for effective implementation will include adoption of EBP through alignment of nursing curricula according to EBP skills, utilizing models and theories to teach nurse about EBP and making health staff aware about new scientific and technological development in nursing practice (Aarons et al., 2012). Adaptation of this sophisticated plan will help nurses to implement evidence-based intervention effortlessly. In the absence of adequate guidance, nurse often face challenges in applying research finding in complex practice setting. Instilling in nurses the knowledge of theory and practice related to interpreting research articles is essential to move them towards evidence based nursing intervention (Lewis, 2015). This will enable the nurse to practice according to registered standard of nursing practice and use best evidence for s afe and high quality practice (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Professional standards, 2016). To excel in EBP, it is essential that nurse develop the spirit inquiry and learn to inquire about different possible outcomes of a nursing intervention. The first approach to applying EBP clinically is to start analyzing the benefits of current practice. The questions may be like- Which medication is more effective to treat children with depression? or Will twice checking medication help to remove nursing errors?. The second most appropriate way to move ahead with the inquiry is to develop a PICOT format for inquiry to decide the specific population of patient, area of intervention, comparison with other intervention to decide effectiveness and analyzing outcome within a fixed time frame (Williamson et al., 2015). After this, the nurse can be trained to find the most relevant research article by searching with key words. This will enhance their information searching skill. PICOT question should always be kept in mind while researching recent research article. The next important skill is to critically appraise the study to determine if the research is valid. Nurse will have to question themselves whether same method will give better result in my practice area. Critically appraisal skill is an effective way to assess the reliability and applicability of research findings (LoBiondo-Wood Haber, 2014).The registered nurse standard of nursing practice also states that nurse should use a variety of thinking strategies to decided which evidence based intervention is safe for practice (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Professional standards, 2016). After selection of relevant research article, the best way forward for nurse is to integrate those evidence with their nursing expertise and also respect patient values in providing care. The National competency standards of nursing practice also encourage nurse to respect the rights, dignity and values of patient to optimize decision making process. It helps to build a therapeutic relationship with the patient and facilitate patient-centered care (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Professional standards, 2016). It is necessary to inform patient about evidence based intervention and involve them in decision making to decide whether patient should receive new intervention or not (DiCenso et al., 2014). This is the most critical component of EBP. Patient support tools are also helpful to provide information about evidence based intervention in a simple format to patients. After implementing a new change in practice, it is also necessary for nurse to determine the impact of innovation on health outcome of patients. The success of evidence based practice may be judged on the basis of length of stay post-intervention, cost involved and the rate of complications in the process. If the change is favorable for patient, it is also necessary to disseminate the change to other practice settings so that increased number of patients gets benefits (Dogherty et al., 2013). Hence it is feasible for registered nurse to adopt EBP in their daily practice once they get adequate training to learns the skills of EBP. Another important recommendation is the health care organization must be responsible to make this change feasible and adopt policies so that the process becomes easier for all health care professional to follow. The above information supports my individual statement that nurses should also be expected to engage in EBP in practice setting. My statement goes against the topic that since nurse does not get training; they should not be expected to adopt EBP. The individual statement however stressed that it is very important that nurse also engage in this practice to meet patient expectation and improve quality. To make this change feasible, adequate support to the statement was given by explaining about ways to train nurse to learn skills in EBP and mitigate the challenges they face in adopting it in regular practice routine. Gun Control Essays (1114 words) - Gun Politics In The United States

Gun Control "In order to reduce gun vilolence in the U.S., there should be stricter gun regulation." By Don Sunberg U.S. Politics and Government Dr. M. Anderson September 13, 1999 Violence and crime in today's society is inevitable. Human nature is full of hatred, jealousy, and chaos. Throwing guns into the equation adds security for some, and vulnerability for others. Gun regulation is a topic of debate that has been going on for years and looks to be going on for many more to come. Although, each side of the issue seems to have a possibility of security for all, a healthy median of both sides proves to be hard to come by. On the side of no gun regulation, advocates explain that a concealed handgun provides safety, and that people who defend themselves (with guns) may indirectly benefit other citizens. Cab drivers and drug dealers who carry guns produce a benefit for cab drivers and drug dealers without guns (Lott 18). This theory seems like it could be quite effective, but it brings questions of whether drug dealers would even obey gun regulation laws if imposed, since they are already braking the law by dealing drugs. One might ask why do drug dealers need guns? The answer is quite simple, most violent acts are due to drug and alcohol abuse (Write 313). The ability to carry a concealed weapon provides safety to the insecure and vulnerable. Erika Schwartz (the first runner-up in the 1997 Miss America pageant) made her decision to carry a gun after becoming a victim of a carjacking. Other women carry a weapon due to their fear of rape. Laurence Rockefeller's reason to pack heat is because he carries large sums of money and feels that a gun will protect him from becoming a victim of a mugging (Lott 23). Advocates of no gun control say that the current gun regulation of a waiting period to help potential murders time to "cool off" is a total waste of time. Any one who leaves the scene of an argument, drives to a gun shop, buys a weapon, loads it with ammunition, and returns to kill the awaiting victim can hardly be said to be acting in the heat of the moment (Sullum). Gun regulation only prevents the innocent from having the right to protect himself or herself. Felons and criminals will go to all costs to get a weapon to kill, gun regulation or not. Stricter gun regulation, in theory, will get the guns off the streets and into the hands of those deserving and qualified. Sending a message to society that guns are not acceptable and will not be tolerated as a viable source to end an argument, is gun regulation's main goal. A recent effort in our nations capital, Washington D.C., to get guns off the street brought in over 2,300 guns that were turned over as part of a successful buy-back program. A program that has become fairly popular in America, such cities a New York and Minneapolis are looking into a similar program as well (Thurman). In an ideal world, there isn't any violence, guns, or worry. Unfortunately, America isn't that world. Therefore, actions must be taken to achieve that ideal world. Gun regulation doesn't mean absolutely any guns and safety for all, but rather it puts guns in the hands of those qualified to use them. Looking at society today, the problem with gun violence is out of control. Causing gun control activists to emphasize that change must occur. Phillip Cook, and economist at Duke University argues that if you introduce a gun into a violent encounter, it increases the chance that someone will die (Lott 20). This outlook on gun control favors the idea of stricter regulation. Even if someone legally purchases a concealed weapon and three months later goes and gets in an argument, who is to say that that person will not lose control and start repelling rounds? This is a situation that must be addressed and recognized as something that is extremely possible. By allowing random people to carry a concealed weapon is placing a lot of trust into the American society. On the idea of stricter gun control, one needs not to worry about whether gun control actually works of whether it is needed. The important thing is the message it sends. As the issue of gun control heats-up, advocates for both sides of the issue must realize that no matter how many guns we buy-back or how many permits we give out, gun

Free Essays on Airborne Express

Airborne Express The two main elements of Porter’s Five Forces Model that Airborne Express should be most concerned with are the level of competition within the industry and the power of the buyers. The competitiveness in the industry is very intense. It is lead by two giants, Federal Express and the United Parcel Service (UPS), which account for 35 and 24 percent of the market share respectively. Airborne Express holds only 9 percent of the market. Competing with these two industrial juggernauts is very difficult due to their large financial advantage and their overall size. Airborne Express also has to deal with the above average bargaining power of their high-volume corporate customers. They chose to focus on this segment of the market in the mid 1980s and, even though this strategy has greatly helped them to succeed, these buyers often have the power to demand substantial discounts that they often receive. There is one area of buying power that could be seen as an advantage for Airb orne Express. They control the only privately certified Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) in the U.S. In an FTZ merchandise is tax free and customs duties are only paid on items when they leave. This allows foreign companies to store inventories in the U.S. with Airborne Express without paying customs duties on them until the need arises, which is something they can’t do anywhere else and greatly limits their buying power in this respect. Airborne Express doesn’t have any significant issues of supplier power or availability of substitutes to worry about. Wage Earnings in Australia, Canada and the United States Research Paper

Wage Earnings in Australia, Canada and the United States - Research Paper Example The game of the numbers is to be adjusted in such a way that there must not be any ambiguity in the statistical manipulation and representation. The main objectives of the particular vary study to get insights in employment records as well as the comparison in the earning rates of USA, Canada and Australia. It was the topical history of America and the broadening of the monetary gap between those at the uppermost and bottommost level of the pay rate. In one of the study, Jack Rasmus (2004) writes that what is the instance of the phenomenon that anybody of us loves to make 200,000 USD per year after completion of 25 successful years on the job. There is a lot of difference in the value of money that is being generated by the workers on the job compared to last 25 years. They are making a very different value right now. If you would like to have the same value and same benefits, then it would be far impossible like you have to get the same advantages as the CEOs get at their jobs. This is the difference of time and value maximization. Things were thought to be regularized rather than alike today those are being worse with the passage of time. It is not only for the American lower wage earning employees who have to get enough economic substances to fulfill the routine matters; it is needed to generate monetary opportunists to find financial aid for the poorer people. Without holding to the economic environment, the lifestyle they deserve for is in the agenda of policy makers along with reviewing statistical monetary indexing and calculation of wages. If review of historical data may be made, we may get a clearer insight about the earning differences, the CEOs in United States got twenty four times more than an ordinary worker in 1965. This was not an end, the proportion raised to thirty five times in 1978, then it went up to a huge figure of seventy one times in 1989. After the debt crisis in USA in 2000, the recovery brought a greatest differential figure, that s howed that CEOs were earning three hundred times more than ordinary workers even who were working at their firms- A noticeable historical moment. After some time, the time turned in to a little change with top management remuneration rate with the economic bubble (worldwide) in 2008. History observed a decline in pay rate of CEOs or top managers at a slighter pace. But it did not mean to be a substantial increase in the pay outs of general workers. The hourly wage rate was suggested to be increased to increase the motivation level of the employees. It could cause in an extravagant state that vivid the opportunity for monetary and financial reforms within the organization. The economic bubble caused an extra ordinary unemployment and the wage rates were not said to be increased in near future. The remuneration declining rate for CEOs was six per cent approximately. The exact figure turned to 10.4 million USD from 11.07 million USD. Here we define the workers, the average work force i nclude all the employees who work in an organization below top management (middle management, first line management and non-managerial employees i.e., clerical workers). The wage earning discrepancy between CEO and the general working employees was observed more in last decade. However the gender discrepancy was insignificant to be observed because females are emerging as top management seats in prestigious organizations. In Canada, the situation was considerably worse; the wage

Apple Case Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Apple Case - Research Paper Example Material resources comprise of the company’s unique hardware and innovative workforce, while intangible assets include exceptional software and overall technology. As can be discerned from a competitive strength evaluation, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell are two of the strongest industry partisans, hence greatest competitors to Apple. For example, HP reported total net revenue of 127 billion dollars in 2011, with personal systems accounting for 40 billion; IT services at 36 billion, enterprise systems at 22.2 billion, and printing devices at 25.8 billion dollars. Dell Inc., on the other hand, reported net revenues amounting to 61.5 billion dollars in the 2011 fiscal year (Gamble, 2012). Despite Apple’s leadership, as characterized by a 68% overall market share, the company was overshadowed by the aforementioned competitors in some areas of specialty. For instance, in the provision of PCs to the American market, HP led with a 26.1% market share, Dell followed with 22.3%, while Apple came in third with 10.7%. Other potent competitors, especially in the global PC industry include Lenovo/IBM, and Acer, which attained a market share of 12.5% and 10.6% respectively in the 2011 financial year. These Statistics clearly show that Apple derived its highest percentage of revenues from sectors other than sale of personal computers. The collection of more revenue from non-computer devices clearly shows that the company’s greatest strength lies in personal media gadgets and not in computers. For example, in the middle of the 2012 fiscal year, Apple controlled a 68% market share in the tablet computer market. Further Apple’s iPod/iTunes fusion allowed the com pany to gain a 65% market share of the American digital music scene, coupled with a 23% share of all music sales in America. None of the principal rivals in this area managed to accrue more than a 5% market

Social Construction Of Gender Cultural Studies Essay

Social Construction Of Gender Cultural Studies Essay Nortons anthology of Theory and Criticism is a collection of influential critical statements that are drawn from the classical era to the present times. These topic areas has been contributed by different scholars who have written on wide range of issues that covers different interest that touches on the history of poetics to post modernity. One of the topics that Norton looks at is criticism of Simone De Beauviors feminist argument and that of Judith Butlers on gender trouble. Judith book, Gender in trouble is a fictional account of womens issues in the modern societies. She borrows De beavouirs feminist theory to analyze some of the issue facing women today. Social construction of Gender Butler is a radical feminist who is trying to examine some of the foundational roots of gender identity that are culturally embedded within the fabrics of the society and is now characterized by political correctness. She was very much influenced by French writers such as Mitchell Foucault, Jean Sartre but above all Simone De Beauvoir. She draws much of her theoretical thinking on about feminism from De Beauviors concept on the Sex second. Simone de Beauvior was born and grew up in Paris in a wealthy and but very religious family background. He later the family lost their wealth after World War one. Her early childhood life was very much influence by her religious faith, but later turned atheist. Even during his formatting years, De beauvior displayed signs of intellectual prowess which hugely influenced his father. She managed to study mathematics, philosophy and literature, after which he ventured into the field of education. It is argued that beauvior engaged in a romantic relationship with both men and women. In her book, Sexuality, Existentialist feminism and the Second Sex, De beauvior talks about the whole use of feminist sexuality by referring to her own sexual experiences in the mandarins. She laments how womens sexuality has been social constructed by the patriarchal system and stereotypes to belong to the lower beds of the society. Unfortunately, mens perception of women is attributed by other factors such as race, class and religion. As a result, men refer to women as weaker vessel and used sex to confine them to the lower levels of the patriarchal system. In response, De beauvior comes up with the concept of feminist existentialism which contains ideological concepts and theoretical framework that underpins these moral changes. Gender as a choice In her book gender in trouble, Butler emphasizes on the performative nature of gender is constantly trying to free itself from cultural oppression, prejudice and sex perversions. Drawing from her role model, Butler argues along the lines of gender and sex in relation to women, lesbians and gay men. From this book, Butler argues that our understanding of femininity is actually based on cultural interpretation rather than scientific examinations. As a result our perceptions of gender and sex are socially constructed or dictated to by what our societies think, say or portray to us. She refers to the term gender as choice to criticize victimization of women as purported in classical literature. We cannot choose sex or our bodies but we can clothe it according to our cultural understanding. Thus, Beauvoirs theory has radicalized our cultural understanding of gender and gender roles. Beauvoir is one of the key feminist thinkers of the 19th century. She advocate for womens freedom in choosing what is right for them and not to be dictated to by nature or conventional social laws initiated by men. She further explains that women should not allow themselves to be defined by biological gender, rather on their personhood. Beavour argues that the societys reference to female becoming a woman is used to identify them with domestic chores and duties such as cooking, cleaning or being a wife or a mother. In addition, her concept of female becoming a woman encompasses the societys obsession with beauty that is being reinforced by male dominated media which also defines what is deemed to be appropriate modes of dressing. Butler explores the relationship between that exists between power and categories of sex and gender. Through this book, she attack some of the prevailing gender assumptions on womens social roles and sexuality as dictated to by male dominated society. Butler therefore reiterates that there is need to differentiate between biological make up of female body and cultural perception of gender. She uses her dominant theme concerning gender as normative to call upon the society to tackle the gender trouble head on in order to deal with some the existing subversive concepts of women. Conclusion Womens liberation thinking of the 19th century greatly influenced thinking of many scholars including academicians and literary writers. One of those literary writers who were not spared by feminist movement was Simone De Beavouir, French intellectual who found her feet in America. Her move to America enabled her to develop a free mind as she embarked on her literary journey. De beavour used her own sexual experience to develop her feminist theory. Today, her feminism theory is being used widely by other postmodern writers an tool for developing independent feminist thinking. One of those post modern feminist writers is Judith butlers who have drawn much of her ideas from De beavour thought of feminist liberation. Through, her book Butler argues that the society in general need to come up with new ways of dealing gender and sex, by tackling what she calls gender trouble.

Mind Control Essay

Have you ever walked around a shopping mall intending to go to only one store, yet two hours later you’re still in the mall and you haven’t walked into the only store you planned to go into? What pulled you into the other stores? You were just walking down and all of a sudden you smelled a whiff of some good scent, so you walk into Abercrombie and Fitch. The smell hooked you in and then you began looking at clothes and the time just got the best of you and your money. Abercrombie and Fitch used a form of mind control to hook you in and get you to walk into their store and then buy their product. Today we will discuss the topic of mind control, how it affects us as students today, and how the media shapes our ideals and values with mind control. Mind control is defined in psychology as Social Influence. Social influence occurs every minute of every day. It’s the many ways in which people can manipulate other people’s perspectives beliefs and ethics. For instance, The Compliance Method is intent to make a shift in a person’s behavior, not in his perspective or belief. This is one of the biggest advertising campaigns that are being used so successfully today. It’s the â€Å"Just do it† approach. Persuasion, on the other hand, aims for a change in attitude, or â€Å"Do it because it will make you feel Blissful, Healthy, or prosperous.† Whereas the Education Method (which is called the propaganda method if you don’t believe what is being taught.) attempts to alter a distortion in a person’s beliefs, saying something along the lines of â€Å"Do it because you know it’s the right thing to do.† A common way that millions of people get brainwashed as young adults is as being students. Grading, humiliation, favoritism and other techniques, are used in most school systems to punish and reward certain behaviors and ideas. An abundance amount of kids learn in school for example, that t hey are secondary, stupid, inadequate, untalented , and failures thanks to absentmindedness or intended brainwashing done by teachers, who are commonly themselves brainwashed. Students furthermore learn not to be creative, not to question authority, not to be individuals or do things that differ from the mainstream way. Subconsciously they dread the disciplinary action and humiliation that came when they were in school years before. This is mainly the reason many adults  are afraid to ask their questions and thereafter never learn new things. This condition affects thousands worldwide and limits adult intellectual growth. Perhaps the most powerful, yet the least recognized form of brainwashing is in the media. The media affects our thought patterns, expectations, priorities and relationships. The advertising industry influences parents by making them feel that they can buy their children’s love. They accomplish this through linking love and guilt with the purchase of products. Instead of being a good parent, they minimize they’re guilt by buying their kid the newest product on the market. Parents spend approximately 16 hours a week with their children; while they’re children spend about 40 hours a week on any sort of media. This shocking statistic shows just exactly what is most influential in a child’s life. The media especially preys on kids and teens under the age of 24, because this is when they’re brains are most impressionable. You’ve probably noticed many teenagers imitating the dress and even the speech patterns of the rich and famous. Take the Kardashian’s for example, how many girls do you see trying to talk like Kim or look like Kyle? Isn’t it scary how easily influenced we are by what’s going on around us? Brainwashing happens every minute of every day. Whether it’s from the constant media were always hooked into, our upbringing or just the society we are living in today. Now that we are aware of what’s going on around us, we can make sure we agree with what is being fed to us and not just â€Å"do it† because were told it will make us feel a certain way, because it’s the right thing to do, or just do it because everyone else is.

Rodolfo Furniture Store Budget Analysis

Rodolfo Furniture Store Budget Analysis Edric Hernandez-Cruz Gisela Franqui-Atiles Valerie Santiago-Rodriguez Yachira Rodriguez-Cuevas University of Phoenix PR Campus ACC / 561PR Rafael Marrero Diaz November 9th, 2012 Rodolfo Furniture Store Budget analysis is important for any corporation. From small businesses to large enterprises; all organizations evaluate the numbers in order to get a picture of where the company stands economically. This will serve as a basis in order to make decisions as to the direction the entity would like to go.Erroneous decisions can lead to bad decisions that may end up in losses for the company. Rodolfo Furniture is on the verge of making a shift from a furniture maker to distributer. Yet only if the ethical accounting practices have been place into the production of the analysis; can Rodolfo Furniture decide on its future. Budgeting: Risks Associated with Sales Forecast The preparation of the usually begins with a sales forecast. The sales forecast and the anticipated inventory levels determine the production to be budgeted.Furthermore, the company’s sales forecast along with its experience, and collection policies determine the cash inflows for the company. In the scenario, Rodolfo uses his company’s flexible budget, as a guide, to determine the costs that should have been for an attained level of activity. For, instance if his company intended to manufacture or produce 50,000 units, the budget must have been prepared for 49,000 units, 51,000 units, 52,000, and so on. Major risks in sales forecasting Production risks In a manufacturing environment, like the illustration Rodolfo’s scenario, sales forecast determine production schedules. The companies use such forecasts to determine the exact amounts of raw materials and production issues; they need to have an idea of what they are to produce. Two problems can occur, sales under forecast or sales over forecast. Under forecast sales refers to the fact when the m anufacturer may not produce enough product to meet customers’ demands. This will result in an increase in production times which in turn may increase costs; this will also frustrate customers and may even lead the company to losses. In the other hand, over forecast sales refers to the amounts of raw material to be purchased and excessive amounts of finished products to be sold. This excessiveness of raw materials may tie up the capital available to use and the excess finished product will make the company incur in warehouse storage costs; both excesses if repeated constantly may put the company at risk of bankruptcy. Resource risks When sales are over forecast, underutilized workers may have to be reduced. This action will result in a bad image for the company and will break the trust/bond that was built between the company and the workers as they will feel betrayed. If the sales are under forecast, it will happen the exactly opposite, the company will lack of workers to meet d emands. This can result in bad image, losses, service levels will be affected as workers would have to work overtime to cover for the company which can lead to sicknesses and excessive absenteeism. Financial risks This type of errors affects the company’s financial health. The excess of material will lead to excessive costs of unnecessary storage since the excess should have never occurred. Also, over forecast can result in the purchase of unnecessary machinery.Furthermore, if the company forecasts erroneously in a consistent manner, this can lead the company into a raise in the interest by lenders.
